Why does this government hate business??

Legislation in the house, REQUIRING business to pay sick time for people taking time of for H1N1 flu? Yep, they're determined to DESTROY small business, while funding large corporations that are too big to fail.

My employer chose to do the right thing, and paid people confirmed out with H1N1 even if they didn't have PTO (Personal Time off)

The company has roughly 10,000 employees

I hardly consider mandated sick pay an example of an over powering government.. Not that I Don't think the government is over-powering it is; it just seems the real dangerous examples are overlooked and accepted while people dwell on things like sick pay and imaginary death camps

Interesting.
The actual text of the bill says that it applies to "contagious illness," such as H1N1 but does not limit it to the Swine Flu. It also says that the employee must be told to go home or stay home by the employer. Well there it is! A simple fix for small business is don't tell them to go home or not come in. If they choose to do that on their own, you owe them nothing.

It's not surprising that this bill is sponsored by one of California's liberal democrats. Look no further than the current economic condition of that state to see where all this regulation will put the country in a few more years.

AV8R brings up a good point about the contagious clause.. my employer figured the cost of paying people to stay home was less costly than having their entire workforce out due to a contagious illness..

I don't think this is something the government should mandate, but then I don't think they should mandate half the crap they do.

I don't think the Government hates business, I think they are trying to protect the public from h1n1 and any other bugs that may come along from spreading, and as history will show, the business owner will work/starve/discard in a whim the general laborer/peasant, and for this reason we need laws like this.

If they don't like it, they're more than welcome to join the ranks of us Peasants.

Otherwise who gives a crap what they think.

Or, if the general laborer/peasant doesn't like it, they can go to college and get a better job rather than sitting around drinking Budweiser and smoking dope.

If they don't like it, they are more than welcome to work their way up and join the ranks of management/ownership.

Otherwise, who gives a crap what they think?

This has been a public service announcement from the management perspective.

If they all join the ranks of management, who's going to get anything done?

As long as the employee can PROVE he/she has a contagious disease like H1N1. Doctor/hospital proof of this should be required.

phone: cough, cough...I don't feel too good..I better stay home as I may have H1N1.

So since its from a contagious disease, does that mean a person with lets say Herpes get the same ability to stay home and be paid for it?

Good point Chef, great input considering your background.. Would having your entire workforce ill and the likely hood of infecting customers be MORE or less costly to a business than paying someone to stay home? I've never ran a business although paying a small salary to keep someone home vs a REAL possibility of an outbreak in/at your place of business + the media frenzy, etc..

I think we can all agree the government needs stay out of matters like this; I'm interested from a business/management stance if such a policy makes sense..
