The toaster thread reminded me of a huge pet peeve.
Can Openers. There is no reason whatsoever to have a redesign of a can opener. It's perfect the way it is.
Do NOT buy my a new fangled can opener for Christmas, please. |

Good thread. I have a kitchen aid can opener just like that..and I will NEVER, EVER own one that plugs in or sits on the counter. I just remember being a teen and my mom had one on the counter and thinking that she opened a can of tuna yesterday and today she opens sweetened condensed milk. I wonder if that milk is going to tasted like tuna... I'm sure she cleaned it, but the thought just grossed me out. So, we use a handheld one and it goes in the dishwasher.

We got an electric can opener as a wedding present. The kind that hangs underneath the cabinet. What a pos. Not only did it take up precious space, it made a mess, and took up a wall outlet.

The best electric can opener that I have ever seen was one that my Mom got for a wedding present. It was an awesome counter top unit. It sat on the counter like a toaster... the magnet would hold the largest can and the motor and cutter was strong enough that you could place a can taller than the opener and the opener would spin around the can.
The unit lasted for well over forty years, eventually the motor died and my mom has forever been searching for an electric opener that was as good as that one... they just don't make them like that anymore. I just use a manual opener...they are great. |

I watched something on the food network before that said those manual can openers are still the best selling kind.
That is what I use, and never ever have a problem with it! |

We splurged on our can-opener. I know,I know, who splurges on a can-opener? Well we do! The kitchen is the best place to splurge imho, but that is beside the point.
We had a few OXO Good-Grip can-openers that we loved for about 5 years each, but something happened to them (I can't remember what). We decided that we were tired of problematic can-openers and needed something good for both the home and the campsite. We bought the stainless Rosle two handled manual can-opener(please note the angels singing). It is made for the professional, takes absolutely no effort, has completely smooth edges, allows lids to be placed back on top of the cans for short term storage, doesn't ever touch food, and has a lifetime guarantee with 100% customer satisfaction. It is one of our favorite things in the kitchen! |

About the same as two Good Grips (which we've gotten and given for stocking stuffers. $40, but it will literally last your entire life.

See ... I told you! You are welcome to use it when you come to our place. Sadly, it only tells you that you are pretty when there are nice people (who are really good ventriloquists) in the kitchen WITH you!
