If you had eight hours (tomorrow) to show a couple the Peoria area, where all would you take them?

That kinda depends on the weather. Anytime anyone is in town, I try to take them to the top of the Heights water tower as there are few, if any, like it in the US.
Grandview Drive, Moss Ave/High Street - the old oak tree. Check the Name This Peoria Landmark blog for ideas. If you are doing food Avanti's, Spotted Cow, Schooners Donnelly's for lunch, Lariat or Rizzis for dinner. All of those have been around awhile. |

I'd show them the way out.
J/K- A little far, but always spectacular to visitors is Starved Rock- but staying in the Peoria area, a drive down Grandview, The HUGE tree off of main (Oldest tree in the area), Wheels o' Time museum is always fun, OH and the microbrewery/museum at Peoria Mineral Springs. |

8 hours to see Peoria? You could probably go up and down every street in town.

You missed the historical Trolley tour by one day. But if anyone else is interested, the information is below. I've been thinking about going soon!...before end of October!
River City Historical Tour Reservations are recommended! Call (309) 688-5668. Peoria - the oldest continuously settled site in the state of Illinois. The Native Americans, French, the whiskey and earthmoving capital of the world, the grand mansions and Grand View Drive, the River City Tour has it all. This tour highlights Peoria's rich history. Beginning at Grandview Drive, the tour progresses through the Averyville area to downtown Peoria, Southtown, High Street, Moss Avenue, circulating again to Downtown, Glen Oak Avenue and ending back in Peoria Heights. Admiring stately homes and the renowned scenic tour with a view of the river, you will experience an unforgettable Grand River City Tour. June through October Day: Thursdays (June 4, 2009 - October 29, 2009) Time: 10:30 A.M. (1½ hours) Place: Tour leaves from Harp & Thistle, 4605 N. Prospect Road, Peoria Heights, IL (Street parking is available near Harp & Thistle.) For tickets, call (309) 688-5668 Cost: $7 tour ticket purchased at Harp & Thistle $1 paid to trolley driver (Seniors 65 and older ride free with proof of age.) |

Really makes my move to L.A. really seem like a smart one, huh? When I come to Peoria, the best and only thing that I want to see are my children. -The One Stop HOME Shop |

If they wanted some lead in 8 hours, they probably could just CHOOSE to chew on some lead pencils for their meals, stir their cocktails w/ lead pencils and pick the leftovers out of their gumline, with yes..LEAD PENCILS.

i think we'd get an early lunch at kellehers or hooters so they could see the riverfront, then walk around the mall/s to do some christmas shopping.. see a movie at rave. maybe finish it off with a meal at alexanders or sushi gawa/popo.
wow 8 hours is a long time. |
