i just purchased a small tree, and i've about 2 weeks to find a place to put it (so that it can spread its roots before winter). i can't put it in my yard, because we don't plan on being here forever, and the same goes for my families yards. it's a very special tree, and i'd like it to be somewhere i'll always have access to it. in other words, i want it to always be "my" tree, even though i may not live anywhere near it.
any ideas? |

You're a strange duck, aren't you Tape? Different drummer?
As for your tree...what about donating it to an arboretum or Forest Park Nature Preserve? Or donating it to one of the local parks? They'd probably even let you plant it.. ? |

Do not put it in within 30 feet of the foundation of your house.

You could plant it in a pot and take it with you when you leave, for future planting when you settle somewhere?

i'd love to keep it in a pot.. but i'd need a pretty big pot and a fork lift to move it around.
i was thinking of asking the park district if they had a place i could put it.. i'll have to wait until monday to call though. |

just curious, what would happen if you just went to some park and planted it without permission?

Any tree planted right now won't get much roots before winter. Fall is a good time to plant trees becaue they are going dormant.... wiat till the tree drops all of its leaves, then plant it while its dormant. When it wakes up next spring it will just spread out new roots where its at...in its new home.

Plant it in a cemetary. Nobody will mess with it because they'll think someone's family member planted it.

This may seem like a profound question, but why did you purchase a tree without having a place to put it?

How big is the current root ball? How tall?
Also... does the tag give any indication as to its full grown size? |
