Apparently, CILCO thinks those of us who pay our CILCO bills need to pay for those who do not:

My first account ever with CILCO had me put down a deposit. Several years later, down on my financial luck, I was 45 days late and this woman from CILCO was on my front door wanting a check or she was going to shut my CILCO off.

Now if this was done to EVERY PERSON who has or will have a CILCO account, they wouldn't need to force the people who do pay their bills to pick up the tab for those who do not.

Doesn't CILCO have insurance to cover losses?

If this goes through, I demand CILCO provide me with the name of the person whose bill I'd be paying and they have to come over and mow my yard or shovel my driveway.

Oh, and BTW President and CEO of CILCO, Gary Rainwater salary was $5 million last year. Looks like he could pick up all the unpaid accounts.

Every business figures in "loss" into their costs. They know there will be theft, or breakage, and charge a little more to cover it. I think this is the first time i've ever heard it called what it is, though. "We the company, are going to charge you the consumer, for all the deadbeats that we are too lazy to go after." Like Chef, I thought CILCO had already figured this in. Seems like the prices are high enough. But now every month, i'll be forced to pay the "Deadbeat tax"... Super!

are you organizing a strike? pick a single upcoming month where we try to get everyone in the area to refuse to pay their bill?

if the number of people was high enough, i'd do it..

Trans: We (Cilco) will collect the fee. The fee will cover our losses and we will get out of the collections business. By having the fee we can then market these unpaid debts as a commodity and sell them off to third parties. Cilco gets to pocket a smaller fraction of that debt but its better than nothing and besides, the 'fee' is already covering it. Meanwhile those third parties will then be responsible for collecting that debt as they can then keep whatever they get. Profit !!

I'm unemployed and I've been making sacrifices and cuts in my life to pay bills and be responsible. I'm such a fcuking moron -- I could have just let it go and let some of you pick up the slack.

Instead, now I have to pay for those who were smart enough to skip out on their bills.

I wonder what the ratio is of people who truly can not and those who will not or just run out on paying.

I have an idea for CILCO. Put everyone on level pay. I'm currently on it and my monthly bill is 146.00. Instead of collecting for gas/electric USED, the amount would be paid in advance. So, the bill I just received wouldn't be for last month, it would be paying for next months services. That way if I don't pay, I don't get CILCO services and CILCO doesn't get stuck with the unpaid bill and responsible people won't have to pick up other people's bills.

Can we do that in April, instead of September?

I've been on level pay for a year. I just got the "catch up" bill. That's the one where they bill you to catch up for all the "underage" that needs to be paid. It was $435.00! I really don't know how it works, totally. I suppose this means my level pay per month, will go up for the next year.

SC -

Do they not adjust your bill a few times a year? Mine was 196 over the winter, went down to 169 and now down to 146. I'm sure they will adjust it up again when the furnace starts kickin' in. And they usually give me a months notice of the increase/decrease. I think I owed 18 more dollars last month to make up the difference.
