PJStar is unsafe! Do not visit PJStar until they fix the problem! on the Peoria.com Forums

I didn't complain loudly the first time this happened two days ago. It was widely reported on Peoria.com and by the time I was in a position to write about it, the problem seemed to be over. But a few moments ago, I had to make an emergency shutdown of my computer. I had just visited PJStar.com and java-script message appeared telling me my computer was infected and I needed to download a file. This was followed by a popup Webpage that was designed to look like an internal message from Windows. Nothing I could do would close this window and for every one java-script message I would close, another would pop up. Luckily, my own anti-virus protection kicked in and stopped anything from loading. I am still going to run a virus scan. Folks, until I can be assured by whoever is in charge at the Journal Star that they have successfully cleared this infection out of their system AND figured out how the infection occurred, I am recommending that no one visit PJStar.com.

I always hated running Norton until I visited PJStar the other day. I got the same popup and Norton knocked it out in one punch.

The popup did look somewhat legit, though. I bet it has fooled alot of people.

No ... this is the second time. This time the attack seemed more insistent. And this time, i wasn't late for work and I had time to write abou it.

I keep trying, but I can't seem to get a pop-up. What am I doing wrong?

It's an ongoing problem all over the internet.

And it installs the Antivirus 2009 virus, which, when it was called Antivirus 2008 when it first appeared, was particularly nasty to get rid of.

The best way to get out of the popups, outside of clicking the red x until it's gone, is to ctrl-alt-del, open the task manager and kill your browser in under the processes tab. (right click, end process tree).

One site I go to, I had to fiel a formal complaint, because every click opened this annoying thing up.

Malware Bytes will remove any spyware it may install on your machine.

PJSTAR sucks anyway. I can't remember the last time I got news from them.

Lately they've done a few pretty good investigative pieces. There editorials are usually pretty dead on as well.

I guess that is all a matter of opinion.

AS the matter of viruses, etc... it doesn't matter. No computer is safe unless it is unplugged from the internet.. Your computer can get a virus without any action from the user or web browsing.
